Raising Awareness and Money to Help Children

Background

The Center for Miracles operates with the Children’s Hospital at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa. Their mission is to promote the health and safety of children who are at risk for abuse or neglect in San Antonio. They wanted to take advantage of a matching grant opportunity to raise operating funds.

Insights

Corporate sponsorships were going to be vital in reaching their goal. It was important to include an educational component because businesses weren’t aware of the Center for Miracles mission.

Businesses would be more willing to partner with Center for Miracles if they had an emotional sense of the impact their sponsorship would have in the community.

Solution

With child abuse being a sensitive subject, we had to have a metaphorical approach. We had to describe the depth of the problem and the urgency for action, while maintaining a hopeful, uplifting tone.

Making an emotional connection was key, so we spun off of the meaning of “million” and the million dollar-matching grant.

We created a mosaic portrait of a child, made up of many photos of children, suggesting that each smiling face was a reason to end child abuse.

Results

The campaign was successful at raising awareness and funds, combined with the gift, helped establish the organization, which has since gone on serve as a national model for similar hospitals/organizations.

We received a very positive response in the business community, who understood the mission and the goal of the campaign.

We were successful in gaining several large profile corporate sponsors.

We made inroads with many corporate partners who were interested in continuing their relationship with the organization.
